LA Woman Rising

Last Saturday I took Karen with me to a fund raising event for this Art Haus documentary I was a part of which follows the morning rituals of about 50 different women in LA. The film focuses on a range of women from a house wife, to vagrant, to a business woman, to someone like me.  It took place at a very prominent and reputable photographer's house by the name of Phillip Dixon. (Google his ass, he's pretty legendary.) He's photographed anyone from supermodel icons such as Iman, Naomi Campbell, Blondie, Angelina Jolie, and more.

His home is as legendary as he is. It's been written up in many architectural digests. From the outside it looks like a discreet concrete building with high walls, but once you step inside into his humble abode you're transported to a Moroccan oasis in the middle of the Abbot Kinney chaos.

I couldn't support a more sincere project that's headed by our dear friend Nana Ghana whose got so much soul behind this film. You can view more pictures and learn more about the project HERE.

Her kick starter ends in a few days and if you like what you see and you believe in supporting the project, help us fund this project will you? You can donate whatever you wish HERE.

Overall Perfection

Phillip Lim Resort 2012 Leather Overalls

These are amazing. That is all! Droolz.

Falling Over

Model wears Yves Saint Laurent dress and shoes by Alaia
Sweatshirt by Margiela and jeans by Balmain

Jacket by Acne

Jacket and dress by ACNE
Jacket and dress by Rick Owens

Was running through an older issue of Dansk and came across this fashion spread shot by photographer Henrik Buslow, styled by Jesper Hentze. Loving the sensual simplicity in Jesper's stylistic approach. This is  everything I admire in how I would go about dressing myself. Comfort yet luxe all at the same time. Discreet, yet indiscreet. Basics with attention to detail. There's something to be said about being understated yet being noticed all at the same time. It's an art.

Now that it's officially fall, it's time again to find those luxurious knits, perfectly supple leather moto jackets, the perfect cut maxi skirts, and thee most delicately le femme hosiery to tie that little black dress together. The hunt is officially on.

Color of the season: Oxblood for Fall

If you haven't caught on or read about the new "it" trend for fall, the noveau term for the fashionably reincarnated maroon hue is "oxblood" which has been seen all over the runways. Much like how the term vegan leather has gloriously returned pleather into the fashion playing field, oxblood has brought this rich and almost unusual hue with a huge come back. This deep maroon color is a great transition color signaling summer to fall in our wardrobes. I'm liking the mix and match combination with bright colors and the denim blue hues. Oxblood is ruling supreme as the color for the season for both men and women.

If you're shopping or selling at Buttons & Bows, you won't go wrong with the decadent color. We're in it to win it, and we're not mad at it. Hope you enjoyed our picks above of how we would rock the burgundy shade, it's too good not to!

Anna Dello Russo for HM

Can the bitch live? Can I live? Jesus Christ she is God. It's one of those brilliant, holier than thou, so bad that it's great videos. Intentional of course. At the end of the video you'll need a 'fashion shower' and you'll get some much needed fashion advice from the Queen herself.

Homegirl has a good body, cheese and rice.

Fashion Night Out at Phillip Lim

A couple snap shots from our night the other night at the Refinery 29 and Phillip Lim Party last Thursday. As much as it is Fashion's national holiday, I dread the traffic that is ultimately worst than Carmegeddon here during this night, but all in all Karen and I had a slammin good time. We enjoyed the complimentary cocktails that we're all tropical themed that went hand in hand with their coconut popsicles that they handed out to guests which was apropo for the hot as balls night. Here I'm wearing a blazer that I bought from Olivia's pop up shop at Buttons & Bows along with my never fail Alaia heels and a DVF clutch. Karen probably had the best outfit hands down at the party with her casual chic approach to the night wearing a jean shirt paired with a Sharon Schwoub pleated skirt, neon Alexander Wang heels, and Proenza Schouler clutch.

We ended the night at the Satine boutique party, shortly following suit with a much-deserved dinner at The Little Door. After dinner, Karen danced the night away to the tunes of Matthieu Schreyer in the French Morrocan themed restaurant. It was picturesque in every sense of the word.

Anyway til next fashion soiree, we bid you adieu lovelies! If you're around for art walk in DTLA pay us a kind visit will you? We have so many goodies in the store that need to be snatched up!
