Labor Day the BBLA Way

How could it be that summer is almost over? It seems like only yesterday we were all clamoring for days on the beach and warm evening parties where the days lasted longer than the night. Luckily, being located in the heart of LA, we're living in a perpetual summer, despite what the calendar says. I like to think that Summer really starts on Memorial day and ends in September with Labor Day. With that in mind, here's a few pointers on how to throw a rocking Labor Day bash, Buttons & Bows Style!

So, you've shopped our sale in store &  we've got you fitted in some cool threads to dance in for your party, but you've got no music to jam to! Fortunately, I've composed a cool playlist of fun tracks to keep the party going--it certainly gets us dancing in store. If it's not obvious by our own style, the crew here has an eclectic taste: Rock, Pop, Rap, and Reggae, we love it all! The best part about the music is blasting it from our House of Marley speakers, they're Bluetooth compatible so everyone can hook up their phone and have a chance to be the DJ!

  1. "Let Me Take You Out" --Class Actress
  2. "Say That" --Toro y Moi
  3. "As We Enter" -- Nas & Damian Marley
  4. "Y.A.L.A" --M.I.A
  5. "Deadbeat Summer" --Neon Indian
  6. "Stir It Up" --Bob Marley
  7. "Start of Something" --Voxtrot
  8. "You're Not Good Enough" --Blood Orange
  9. "Don't Wait" --Mapei
  10. "Sunshine" --Jo Mersa

Now that you've got a great look and you and your guests are dancing to some great tunes, replenish your energy with some good eats! The crew here in store are a bunch of self-proclaimed foodies; we always rush to the newest restaurant to grab a bite and are wizards in the kitchen as much as in the closet. Here are three fun recipes, we love and want to share with you.

BBQ Jerk Chicken

3 scallions, chopped

4 large garlic cloves, chopped

1 small onion, chopped

4 to 5 fresh Scotch bonnet or habanero chile, stemmed and

1/4 cup fresh lime juice

2 tablespoons soy sauce

3 tablespoons olive oil

1 1/2 tablespoons salt

1 tablespoon packed brown sugar

1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves

2 teaspoons ground allspice

2 teaspoons black pepper

3/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

4 chicken breast halves with skin and bones

How to Prepare
Make marinade:
Blend all marinade ingredients in a blender until smooth.
Marinate and grill chicken:
Divide chicken pieces and marinade between 2 sealable plastic bags. Seal bags, pressing out excess air, then turn bags over several times to distribute marinade. Put bags of chicken in a shallow pan and marinate, chilled, turning once or twice, 1 day.
Let chicken stand at room temperature 1 hour before cooking.

What You'll Need

2 ounces of your Whiskey of choice
3/4 ounce lemonade
3/4 ounce honey syrup or 2 tablespoons honey

How to Prepare

Combine ingredients into a shaker and shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
