Weekend Round-Up

Hey BBLA Babes! It's almost the weekend! Time to break out your best looks and head out on the town. There are two special events going on this weekend in LA that you'll catch us at.

A Current Affair

Saturday from 12-7, our store is participating in a vintage Pop-Up show A Current Affair, we'll be bring our absolute best vintage designer pieces! This year's Fall showcase will be hosted by self-proclaimed GirlBoss and fellow vintage fanatic Sophia Amoruso. Also making appearance downtown will be our good friend fashion blogger Olivia Lopez of LustforLife--a regular fixture in the store and occasional Lookbook model. Entry is $8 or $16 for the VIP preview, which includes access to an open bar and music provided by DJs from KCRW. You'll have the pick of the absolute best Vintage that LA has to offer!

Thievery Corp. and Stephen Marley at the Greek

On the other side of LA, for those of you into the nightlife scene, DJ collective Thievery Corporation and reggae artist Stephen Marley will be playing a set at Greek. For those of you unfamiliar with Thievery Corp, they've got a chill-wave sound of bass heavy beats with minimal lyrics that you can really groove to. Five-time Grammy Winner Stephen Marley just released his fourth album earlier this year and has been touring almost non-stop since. His sound classically reggae with a smooth and soulful edge. Music runs deep in the Marley fam! The best part about this show is that tickets are still available! You can get some here. Check out some of our favorite songs by

2014 Fall Trends

Check your calendars, BBLA babes. The season of pumpkin spice and orange leaves is upon us as today marks the first official start of Fall (even though the temperature might have you feeling otherwise)! Now is the time to break out that trench, you've kept buried in the back of your closet for most of the year--it's certainly right on trend. Early this year, with February's Fashion Weeks we got a glimpse at everything you could expect to be hot this season, so I'm rounding up the top trends for Fall 2014 as a little style recap.

This season's color palette takes on a vibrant hue. Be sure to avoid any oranges and yellow, so you stand out from the crowd and piles of leaves falling to the ground! Think about all the shades of spring--Pinks, Blues, and Greens--and embrace their darker cousins: Magenta, Emerald, and Turquoise. Still going strong is this year's "it color": Radiant Orchid. Think of your color choices as a base to build a look on. Maybe your the type of fashionista who loves to keep it minimal with a chic black and white look, you can add a nice pop of color to your shoes or accessories. If you're the type to rock only pastels, accentuate your chosen palette with fun focal points in a darker tone.

However this season's Favorite color will definitely be Green! It's no longer the color of renewal for Spring, but a deep and luxurious tone for the cool days of this Season. Think Military chic with a preppy polish.

Knit All-Over

Left to Right: Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Celine

It's true, Fall is the time to wear your ugly sweaters with pride. Find a long one at a thrift shop, layer it with a nice jacket, add a belt to the waist and finish your look with some booties and you'll be dressed to kill. This season, it looks like high-end designers are embracing sweaters and knitwear like crazy, so you'll be sure to find enough sweaters on the market to last you until the new year. This season, looks entirely fashioned with your grannie's favorite past-time, are the hot new thing. Think about lots of beanies and scarves on top of long sweater-dresses!

NYFW: Get the Look

September is a time to look to the future, as our favorite designers begin to showcase their newest collections at New York Fashion week. With shows from J Crew, Rag & Bone, Donna Karan, and Alexander Wang, there's a lot to look forward to in 2015. Fashion week is like waiting for Christmas: you've made your list of all the things you want, but waiting two seasons is too long. If you're impatient like me, you want these looks right now! With some internet sleuthing, I've found several pieces that mimic upcoming looks on the websites of each designer already, that way you can stay ahead of the curve and rock these looks without having to hold off. Get that credit card ready and have at it ;)

J Crew came with some looks that were a nice blend of their classically preppy aesthetic with some rugged appeal. This collection has me looking forward to spring time camping, picnics, and afternoon brunches. The color palette was subdued with a white base with lost of pops of yellows, greens, and blues. It looks like their forecasting a lot of outside use, from all the layers their putting onto the models. Normally, big in fall, layering will stick around for those rainy Springtime days. Very few looks for the women were arbitrarily feminine, instead were seeing a lot of pants and capris, for the the active girl, who isn't afraid to be bold.

Here's a look that's ready to wear with a color palette that's actually perfect for winter. The slate blue has me thinking about cool days and long nights. What really draws me to this look are the shoes. If there is one thing we can take away from this collection, it's that metallics are here to stay for another year! If you're loving these shoes on the model, you can grab the Greta heel, already on J Crew's site, that resembles this new one pretty well.

Can't forget about the fellas! Really love how this look is a cross between causal and dressy. The military jacket is another piece that never goes out of style. The olive color is one that goes with just about everything--even a suit and tie! This coat can be found in a copycat version on J Crew right now: the Cotton Fishtail Parka!

Alexander Wang

Always a BBLA favorite, Alexander Wang's newest collection was an homage to the sneaker. Think lost of bright color and mixing textures. Lots of the looks blurred between sporty and sexy. Bright and bold neons are no longer restricted to the feet as he presented models wearing loud patterns and fun prints. Lots of leather and mesh with knitted fabrics were the main features.

This one isn't an exact match in color, but I the neon yellow and green are pretty similar. Alexander is truly the best at mixing fabrics and textures for looks that are as fun to touch as they are to look at. This knitted sweater dress from his runway show harkens back to a piece on Net-a-Porter by him from last year that you scoop up right now

Donna Karan

Donna Karan's collection for Spring was inspired by Art. Each piece is kinetic and energetic mimicking the paint splatter of a Basquiat, and the soothing tones of a Monet. Street-wear and street-art combine for a collection that ranges from the ivory tones of an untouched canvas to a vibrant red of fashion's favorite primary color.

Both skirts a reminiscent of Jackson Pollock Painting, with the splatters being a central focal point. While, the new collection focuses more on textural mixes, this older skirt is balanced with pops of color! The black paint splatter skirt is available right now on Saks Fifth Avenue!
